Scenario 1

We now need to estimate the total number of cattle in Lobamba Sub-region.

Substituting n=4 an N=13 in the appropriate formulae (Exploration & description / Formulae) we have:
mean number of animals per homestead = = (T1+T2+T3+T4) / (M1+M2+M3+M4) = 14.90.
estimated total number of cattle in region = T = (M1+M2+M3+M4) x 13/4 = 24,403.
s.e. (T) = √{13(13-4) [(T1 - T)2+...+ (T4 - T)2] / (4 - 1) + 13 (S12+...+ S42) / 4} = 4,276.
